I saw Brad Pitt on The Daily Show the other night and he made a good point: America has always been known for and proud of its innovation and he was asking, would we today, knowing what we know about being held hostage by the oil barrons of the Middle East, design and manufacture the same type of car today? If we were not entrenched in “this is the way it’s done” and actually had to find another means of transportation that relied on green energy, of course we could do it. Greed gets in the way and the car companies don’t want to retool their manufacturing lines, but if someone could prove that within ten years they’d all be much richer for it, we’d have awesome electric cars, like, yesterday. The same for powering our cities. If money wasn’t really the issue, the powers that be would be building wind turbines and harnessing the sun’s power like crazy. What will it take to make everyone realize that we cannot bow to the oil barrons for much longer?

My husband makes me crazy. We’ll both go on a diet – usually after the holidays to get ready for bathing suit season – and by March he’s lost 20 pounds and I’m barely topping a 7 pound loss. And I eat less than he does! I started researching why weight loss for women is so much slower and learned it has to do with muscle continuing to burn fat even after exercising, and since men have more muscle their metabolism is faster. So that explains why they always say you must must must exercise to lose weight and keep it off: the muscle you build is what keeps it off! Darn. I always hope the acai berry magic will work and then get disappointment when the latest diet pill doesn’t work. So I bought a Pilates chair and it’s doing a nice job collecting dust in the corner. Just might have to drag it out and use it after all. We’re only 3 months from beach time and that bathing suit is going to be a horror on me at this point.

I need to get my dog a dog ID tag just in case he escapes and gets lost in the future. I just got him last week, and that is one of the things that I have failed to do. I do not want to wait too much longer on that, though, because if he gets lost, I want people to be able to identify him and bring him back home to me. An ID tag for my dog is the easiest and by far and away the cheapest way for me to ensure that he can be easily identified by anyone who finds him and then I can be contacted to let me know where he is.

My grandma told me that when I take him to the vet to get his shots, I can get him a dog ID tag at the vet’s office. My grandma told me that they make those tags there. I did not know that, but doing things that way will make life very easy for me. That will be one less stop that I will have to make. Originally, I was going to go to the pet store after the vet visit, but I will not have to do that now.

To many people African drums are simply musical instruments, but did you know that they serve for many other things, especially in Africa?
