And there’s a pretty easy way to come up with your story. All you need to do is think of 2 movies you really love from 2 different genres and then find a way to blend their respective stories so that you end up with something great.
People in the movie industry do this all the time. You’ll often hear them define a movie as “Die Hard meets Jaws,” or something along those lines.
And that’s all you need to do. Start thinking: what would happen if The Shining met The Godfather? You do that for enough combinations of movies and eventually you’ll hit on one that sounds exciting to you. And when that happens, run with the idea and try to turn it into a complete story for your screenplay.
